TripAdvisor Accused Of Deleting Resort Rape Report

(RTTNews.com) - Travel review website TripAdvisor has launched a new warning 'badge' feature that will mark hotels and listings where sexual assaults and rape have been reported.

Early this month, TripAdvisor was widely criticized for removing a 2010 review written by Kristi Love on Iberosar Paraiso Maya, a beach resort in Mexico. According to Love, she was raped by a security guard at the Mexican resort.

TripAdvisor, however, later restored the review and issued a public apology. The website said it had deleted the review based on an old policy that allowed only "family-friendly language" on the site.

"These badges will remain on TripAdvisor for up to three months. However, if the issues persist we may extend the duration of the badge," said spokesman Kevin Carter to New York Times. "These badges are intended to be informative, not punitive."

Decisions to add or remove a badge will be made by an employee committee.
